Ribbed Safety Lock Washer S Series - Regular Duty | 65Mn Spring Steel | Mechanically Zinc Plated
FULLERKREG Ribbed Safety Lock Washers S Series (Regular Duty) in 65Mn Spring Steel with Mechanical Zinc Plating conform to DIN 9250 Type S. Mechanical zinc plating is a cold-process coating that applies zinc powder to the surface without heat or electrical current, eliminating hydrogen embrittlement risk - making it the preferred surface treatment for high-hardness spring steel washers (420-500 HV) where electroplating could cause delayed fracture.

Surface Treatment - Mechanical Zinc Plating Explained
Mechanical Zinc Plating (also known as mechanical galvanizing or peen plating) is a cold-process coating method that tumbles parts with zinc powder, glass beads, and chemical promoters to mechanically bond zinc to the steel surface. Unlike electroplating, no electrical current or heat is used.
Key advantages for high-hardness spring steel components:
- 🛡️ No hydrogen embrittlement - cold process eliminates the hydrogen absorption risk associated with electroplating; critical for 65Mn spring steel at 420-500 HV
- 🌐 Uniform coating - consistent zinc layer on all surfaces including recesses, threads, and serrations
- 📐 Controlled thickness - typically 5-25 microns; predictable dimensional impact
- 🛡️ Good corrosion resistance - zinc sacrificial protection; typically 96-200 hours NSS per ISO 9227 depending on passivation
- ✅ RoHS compliant - available with Cr3 passivation (no hexavalent chromium)
- 🏭 Suitable for bulk production - batch process ideal for high-volume fastener coating

How It Works
The S Series washer operates on two simultaneous locking mechanisms:
- 🔩 Conical spring action - cone profile stores elastic energy under bolt load, pushing back to maintain clamp force as the bolt tends to loosen.
- 🔒 Radial rib grip - fine ribs on both faces bite into mating surfaces, creating mechanical resistance to rotation in both directions.
Stack in the same direction to multiply spring force, or back-to-back to increase deflection range.
Standard and Compliance
DIN 9250 Type S (Regular Duty), cross-referenced with NFE 25-511 and Schnorr original specification. FULLERKREG washers are manufactured to full DIN 9250 Type S dimensional compliance. Certification available on request for bulk orders.
