Vibra-Tite VC-3 Threadmate | Adjustable, Reusable Threadlocker with Multi-Branch US Military Certification

Vibra-Tite VC-3 Threadmate is a liquid threadlocker that cures to form a flexible, rubber-like film on fastener threads. Unlike conventional anaerobic threadlockers (such as LOCTITE® blue or red), VC-3 is adjustable and reusable — the fastener can be repositioned after installation and re-tightened without reapplication, making it ideal for applications requiring periodic adjustment or maintenance.

VC-3 Red is a medium-to-high strength variant in the VC-3 product family, suitable for fasteners up to M20 / 3/4" diameter. It is widely used in automotive, industrial, and defense applications.

VC-3 vs Conventional Anaerobic Threadlockers

Feature Vibra-Tite VC-3 Conventional Anaerobic (e.g., LOCTITE 243/271)
Cure mechanism Air-dry film Anaerobic (cures in absence of air, activated by metal ions)
Adjustable after installation Yes No (fully cured = permanent or semi-permanent)
Reusable Yes (multiple cycles) No (single use)
Active on passive surfaces Yes (plated, coated, stainless) Often requires activator on passive surfaces
Pre-application possible Yes (apply and let dry; activate on assembly) Limited (liquid must be applied at assembly)
Vibration resistance Good (flexible film) Good to excellent (rigid cure)
Removal Standard hand tools May require heat or impact tools

US Military Certifications

VC-3 Threadmate meets the requirements of multiple US military branches and procurement specifications, confirming its suitability for defense, aerospace, and mission-critical applications:

Branch / Agency Specification / Part Number Notes
US Air Force Stock No. 19207 (MIL-PRF-19207 series) Aerospace sealing and fastener requirements
US Army Missile Command MIS-28867A and P5407-1 Two procurement / performance specifications
US Army Tank-Automotive Command (TACOM) Part No. 11663357 General dynamics / ground vehicle applications
US Navy Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) Part No. 5174855 Naval procurement / certification number
NATO Stock Number (NSN) 8030-00-163-5792 Unique NATO supply chain identifier; enables direct product traceability

The NATO Stock Number (NSN) 8030-00-163-5792 is the product’s unique identifier in the US military and NATO supply chain, enabling direct sourcing and traceability across all branches.

Applications

  • Automotive and powertrain: Fasteners requiring periodic adjustment or torque verification without full disassembly
  • Defense and aerospace: MIL-spec compliant locking for aircraft, missile, and ground vehicle fasteners
  • Industrial machinery: Vibration-resistant locking on equipment subject to maintenance cycles
  • Plated and coated fasteners: Effective on zinc-plated, black oxide, Dacromet, and stainless steel fasteners without activator
  • Pre-application at manufacturing: Apply VC-3 to fasteners at the factory; the dried film activates when the fastener is tightened at the assembly point

Application Instructions

  1. Clean fastener threads to remove oil, grease, and contamination
  2. Apply VC-3 to the male thread (bolt/screw) by brush, dip, or spray
  3. Allow to air-dry completely before assembly (typically 15–30 minutes at room temperature)
  4. Assemble and tighten to specified torque
  5. For reuse: loosen, reposition, and re-tighten — no reapplication required for the first several cycles
